Weekend Wonders

Violet gelato with Sydney

I had a wonderful weekend visiting my home town, which is Lexington, South Carolina.  I wanted to check on my Dad’s progress from his hip replacement surgery (he is doing great) and spend time with family because I had not been home since Christmas!

I took advantage of the beautiful weather on Saturday and grabbed up my littlest niece, Sydney, and headed to the All-Local Farmer’s market in South Carolina’s fair capital city of Columbia.

Sydney and I had a BALL!

Check out this cuteness!

I love the All-Local Market in Columbia, and I used to be a faithful regular when I lived in Columbia.  Every Saturday morning Cayden and I would go.  He looked forward to the man that made him a fresh crepe with butter and powdered sugar and talking to the vendors and farmers, and I most enjoyed grabbing up the farm-fresh goods!

If you are ever in Columbia, South Carolina on a Saturday make your way over (early) to the market at 701 Whaley Street.

Here are some pictures from the market of new vendors that I am particularly excited about…

The sea salt lady! **I grabbed up the Lavender Salt***  Delicious sprinkled on a salad with local goat cheese, local honey, and a balsamic vinegarette.

Microgreens

edible flowers

There were fresh boiled peanuts, farm fresh eggs, cheeses, meats, milk, artisan breads, and of course a variety of in-season vegetables.  The prices beat anything at your chain grocer’s organic section and are 1,000s of miles fresher!

I hope this inspires you to visit your local farmer’s market next weekend.  Get out and enjoy the sunshine and fellowship with your local farmers and food purveyors.

If you are in Savannah, there is a fantastic Forsyth Farmer’s Market (all-local) every Saturday AM (go early before the eggs sell out!).

The market is set up across from Brighter Day and Sentient Bean at the South end of Forsyth Park from 9am-1pm.  The address is the corner of Bull Street and Park Avenue.

  • Local farmers
  • Local food product vendors
  • EBT dollars accepted
  • Free health & wellness events too…check the calendar here.

Here are some shots from the winter Forsyth Farmer’s Market in Savannah.  Yum~ green goodness~
